Premiere is a premium flight booking website, designed with Figma variables and a design system I created called the Premiere Design System. It offers an elegant, seamless experience for luxury travelers. Customizable design elements ensure a refined, high-end look, while consistent UI components maintain a sophisticated aesthetic.
Challenge
The biggest challenge I faced in creating the Premiere Flight Booking Prototype was learning and mastering Figma variables to enhance the design’s flexibility and consistency. As someone new to Figma’s variable system, it took time to fully grasp how to leverage variables for dynamic design elements like color schemes, typography, and spacing, while ensuring they could adapt across multiple pages and user scenarios. Additionally, creating the design system was a great learning experience as I got to research several different design systems while creating my own.
Results
The results of integrating Figma variables into the flight booking website exceeded my expectations. It allowed for a highly adaptable and cohesive design. I was able to create a high amount of functionality in the prototype, that simply wouldn't have been possible without the use of variables. The design system came together seamlessly, ensuring that the website not only looked refined and luxurious but also functioned smoothly with a streamlined, intuitive user experience.
Process
Research & Analysis: I conducted a large amount of research on other design systems to understand why they were successful. Once researched, I started creating my own design system to use for my flight booking website prototype.
Wireframing: I created several wireframes that aligned with my design system to visualize exactly how I wanted the booking app to function. Once I nailed that down I started iterating several times before I made the decision to go with a glassmorphism aesthetic for a sophisticated high-quality design.
Figma Variables: Learning Figma Variables posed a significant challenge as I had never used them before. I started with small scale projects to learn all the features that I could do with them. Once I felt comfortable, I planned out exactly how I was going to use them to get the complex parts of my prototype to function.
Prototyping: Prototyping offered a significant challenge as I had used hundreds of conditionals to get each part of the prototype working. The calendar was one of the more difficult challenges I faced as there was several different ways of doing it but it was fairly tricky. Each possible outcome of the prototype was planned out including each time zone change, number of passengers and how that affects price, and real tax was implemented to ensure I had a real functioning prototype.
Visual Design: I decided to go with a glassmorphism aesthetic as it offers sleek, translucent elements and subtle blur effects, which perfectly complements the high-end, luxurious aesthetic of a premium booking website. By adding a sense of depth and refinement, it enhances the visual sophistication while maintaining an elegant, modern look that aligns with the exclusivity and premium nature of the brand.
